Picnic on Tracks
In the summer months of June, July and August, the “picnic on tracks” format invited the neighborhood to a colorful get-together. A cozy picnic atmosphere was created on various old tracks on the Garage Campus site.
In addition to eating together, artistic contributions enriched the program – including a reading by neighbor Leonore Cebulla, musical performances by “Jens Ausderwäsche” and “Benni Schurtz” as well as creative activities to get to know each other, such as a neighbourhood bingo. The Garage Campus team provided active support in making new contacts and facilitating encounters.
A colorful mix of people took part in the picnics – young creatives, students, adults with a migration background, families with small children from the neighboring district of Kaßberg, senior citizens and migrant workers from the mechanics’ apartments next door. Many visitors were on the site for the first time and brought not only food, but also an interest in new encounters.

The picnics offered more than just an opportunity to eat: they became a place of exchange, inspiration and community. Through personal conversations, new wishes and ideas for the use of the Garage Campus were collected – from creative projects to opportunities for exchange and collaboration.
The track picnics showed how easy it can be to bring people together and create space for encounters. We are already looking forward to a new round…
