Open the garage
A lot has happened on the Garage Campus in recent months – both in terms of construction and content. At this year’s “Garage öffne dich” open day, we presented the results of our meeting and design formats, which we were able to implement this year thanks to the “Soziale Orte” funding program. The day offered a varied program that aroused curiosity and inspired.
Opening with a collaborative work of art
The day began at 10:00 a.m. with a vernissage of our new neighborhood artwork. A work of art developed by students, artists and neighbors was inaugurated at the Kappelbachgasse 32 location, directly on the cycle path behind the Garage Campus. This work of art is a symbol of the creative and collaborative processes that animate the campus.

Topic area “Greening”
From 11:00 a.m., everything revolved around the greening of brownfield sites. Together with cooperation partners from “ECRN” (European Creative Rooftop Network), the “Interlace” project and FRIDA Architekten, we are working on a green roof artwork for the garage campus. In the “Speakers Corner” there were informative contributions on the project idea and the topic of green roofs. Green roof specialist Kathrin Goldammer from ZinCo GmbH and other representatives of the projects were available to answer questions at information stands and invited visitors to plant sample kits for green roofs or design green solutions for the campus using the Minecraft game.

Tours and a change of perspective
Tours of the entire site took place every hour on the hour, offering insights into the structural and conceptual developments. At 2 p.m., we went on a walk through the neighborhood, which made it possible to experience the surroundings from new perspectives.
Track picnic and reading
Throughout the day, the track picnic invited visitors to linger with a cool drink in secluded spots, engage in conversation and enjoy the lively hustle and bustle. At 16:00, Leonore Cebulla delighted the audience with a reading of “Garage Stories”.

Further highlights
In addition to the main program items, there were many little surprises to discover. The streetcar museum was open and offered a varied program and culinary delights.
The day showed the diversity of the campus – we would like to thank all visitors and look forward to future projects and formats!
