Neighborhood place – from the inside to the outside

The original plan was to convert parts of the Garage Campus 2024 into a neighborhood meeting point. Due to the construction site situation, the project was moved to the outdoor area. Instead of fixed indoor spaces, the focus shifted to the development of mobile furniture to create flexible meeting points.

From the idea to implementation

In collaboration with around 20 pupils from the 9th grade of the secondary school at the airport, the desire for a meeting point or a cozy chill-out area on campus arose in a workshop. Together, the young people from the neighborhood developed ideas on how to create a quality place to spend time. The solution: a mobile, versatile group of furniture made from existing materials that can be used flexibly on the campus.

The idea of a furniture group made of pallets was realized in a one-day workshop under the conception and guidance of the Holzkombinat. The young people created a color design and carried out manual work, including cutting, sanding and shaping the pallets into pieces of furniture. They hammered, screwed and painted with dedication until the furniture had its final look.

At the end of the workshop, the finished furniture was ceremoniously inaugurated. The mobile furniture is not only a functional result for creating places to meet and spend time, but also a symbol of the active participation of young people in shaping the place and the inclusion and linking of local experts. There is already great anticipation for the use of the chill-out area in the summer months of 2025…
