„Gardens:* Saga of Traffic Lights and Dirt“
A joint European project between Brno (Czech Republic) and Chemnitz (Germany)
Allotment gardens in European cities mostly emerged in the course of industrialisation and the development of the labour movement. Later, in socialist times, people still grew vegetables and tended fruit trees, but the gardens also offered space for recreation and creativity. In the European Capital of Culture year 2025, allotment gardens in Brno and Chemnitz will become a special creative space that connects nature, culture and people.

‘Gardens:* Saga of Traffic Lights and Dirt’, a performative walk through Czech and German allotment gardens, serves to explore cultural and social spaces.
On September 7th, the Kappler Hang allotment garden in Chemnitz became a creative space connecting nature, culture and people. At the end of September, an allotment garden in Brno will become a performance space.
PLATZforma & co.labs led visitors on a poetic and performative walk through the Garage Campus into the Kappler Hang allotment garden – with mystical beings, poetic stories and a special final act in one of the private gardens. Visitors from near and far were inspired and joined in during the walk.

A project of the European Capital of Culture Chemnitz 2025.
Project partners: PLATZforma, co.labs, Garage Campus.
With support of the German-Czech Future Fund and the State Cultural Fund of the City of Brno.
Thanks to the Kappler Hang allotment garden association and the owners of allotment 157 🙂
