Untold Stories: Bombarda – Quarteirão Criativo & Garagen-Campus Chemnitz
An exhibition about untold community and neighborhood stories

The creative district “Bombarda – Quarteirão Criativo” in Porto (Portugal) and the Chemnitz cultural hub “Garage Campus” have much in common: Both are co-designed by people, and both thrive on the creativity and engagement of their communities.
The exhibition “Untold Stories,” curated by both venues, provides insights into previously untold stories of these creative neighborhoods and communities. “Untold Stories” presents 10 objects with the aim of celebrating and inspiring creativity, and highlighting hidden talents, ideas, and stories.
“Untold Stories” was first shown on July 4, 2023, at the Museu Nacional de Soares dos Reis art museum in Porto. The exhibition will be presented at the Garage Campus as part of the Europe Week from May 5 to 9, 2025, in the year of the European Capital of Culture Chemnitz 2025. In addition, the exhibition can be seen at the Garage Campus until the end of 2025.

Background to the collaboration The Garage Campus was part of the European exchange program TWIN HUBS in 2022/2023. The goal of the program was to build new and long-term partnerships between creative hubs in Europe. Our project partner was the association of the creative quarter “Bombarda – Quarteirão Criativo” in Porto. Dedicated residents there came together in 2022 to promote their creative neighborhood, strengthen community, and organize joint activities. We spent a year learning from each other and with each other – in monthly online meetings and through physical exchanges on site in Porto and Chemnitz. The project culminated in a jointly organized, public event on the topic of “Creative Quarters/Creative Places as Magnets of Innovation for Cities” – with a panel discussion, the exhibition “Untold Stories,” and a cultural supporting program. The Porto-Chemnitz connection remains intact: The project has not only generated collaborations and further ideas for projects, but also international friendships!
