Young Art Meets European Capital of Culture – Be There! We warmly invite you to the opening of the YouthArtTriennial 2024 award winners’ exhibition. Look forward to powerful visuals, fresh perspectives, and creative works by young artists from Saxony and Bavaria – right here in Chemnitz, in the heart of our European Capital of Culture year!
What to Expect at the Vernissage
The opening will begin with a welcome speech by Deputy Mayor Dagmar Ruscheinsky (Social Affairs, Youth, Health, Culture and Sports, City of Chemnitz), followed by Peter Nürmberger, long-standing member of the Cultural Working Group of the Saxon-Bavarian City Network.
Together, we’ll then open the exhibition featuring 26 award-winning works, selected by a professional jury from over 400 submissions by artists aged 14 to 25 – including several talented young creators from Chemnitz.
Why This Matters to Us
The YouthArtTriennial is the most important joint cultural project of the Saxon-Bavarian City Network, launched in 1998 to give young artists a platform to share their work with a wide audience.
After touring several cities, the exhibition is now reaching its final stop – here in Chemnitz, the European Capital of Culture 2025. And we couldn’t be happier to host it at the Garagen-Campus, one of the city’s exciting new cultural spaces.
An International Highlight – Now Back Home
In June 2025, the exhibition was already shown at the Mediterranea 20 Young Artists Biennale BORDERLESS in Nova Gorica/Gorizia – the European Capitals of Culture in Slovenia and Italy.
This marked the first time in the project’s 27-year history that the exhibition was presented beyond Saxony and Bavaria – an exciting moment of international recognition for young artists from the region.
Still, it was clear from the start: the final stop must be in Chemnitz – the city where many of these young creatives began their artistic journeys.
Come by – and Bring Friends!
The exhibition will be on view at the Garagen-Campus from August 17 to September 07, 2025. Opening hours: see above.
Whether you’re into art, supporting local talent, or just curious – everyone is welcome! Let’s celebrate young art – in the middle of the Capital of Culture!
