Art, love, exile – a moving theatrical journey
In the final moments before their escape from Nazi Germany, Julia and Lyonel Feininger look back on their life together. FINDEJAHRE, a production by Parktheater Edelbruch, tells the story of this extraordinary artist couple – intimate, poetic, and deeply human.
The performance takes the audience from their first meeting on the Baltic Sea to their revolutionary years at the Bauhaus in Dessau and on to Paris. Along the way, it explores not only major moments in art history and encounters with figures like Walter Gropius, Picasso, and Oskar Schlemmer, but also the nuances of a long relationship – marked by closeness and distance, letters and longing, jealousy and the effort to overcome traditional gender roles.
How can a shared creative life succeed in a world undergoing radical change? What does equality mean in a relationship when the man receives more public recognition? And how do you hold on to what once seemed so certain?
FINDEJAHRE is an intimate chamber play about love, art, and the constant effort to maintain balance – between two people and in a fractured time.
