Haltestelle Kultur – Project Opening

What might a cultural institution look like if it were truly shaped democratically? One where citizens contribute their wishes and visions and actively help determine the future of the place? With Haltestelle Kultur, the Curatorial Collective for Public Art invites everyone to explore these questions – and to get involved directly.
The Garagen-Campus, emerging as a new cultural venue in Chemnitz during the European Capital of Culture year, aims to become a place for everyone. Haltestelle Kultur examines who this “everyone” includes, gathers perspectives from across the city, and – in the spirit of C the Unseen – makes the invisible processes behind the new cultural institution visible.

from 3:00 PM – Arrival with Coffee & Cake
A warm welcome and space for first conversations.
4:00 PM – Film Screening
Since 2021, a diverse steering group has accompanied the development of the Garagen-Campus – supported by the Tramway Friends, who have been part of the project from the very beginning.
In 2024, the Berlin-based artist group CCPA conducted in-depth interviews with members of this steering group, capturing the “status quo” of the emerging cultural site at that moment.
The resulting short film highlights personal perspectives, challenges, and hopes surrounding the Garagen-Campus. We will watch the film together and then shift our focus to the questions that move us today, in 2025.

With the official founding of the Garagen-Campus e.V. in September 2025, an important new phase begins: many fundamental questions are still open.
- What does this new cultural venue need?
- What wishes and visions exist?
- Which themes should be set now?
Through Haltestelle Kultur, we not only open a space for dialogue – we become active together: building, shaping, and filling “cultural stops” that will serve as future places for feedback and exchange.
