Theater: “WRECKS” By Neil Labute
May 21 , 19:00 – 21:00
What’s it about?
During the wake for his late wife, Edward Carr looks back on their life together for the first time. What begins as a quiet reflection turns into a confrontation with his past—and with himself.
Was the life he led the right one?
In WRECKS, American playwright Neil LaBute brings the Oedipus myth into a contemporary American setting. Given away as a baby, Edward Carr builds a rental car “empire” alongside his much older wife Jo-Jo—a seemingly classic American dream. But what he reveals follows the dramatic structure of Greek tragedy and leads us into the dark depths of human decision-making.
Neil LaBute is known for his unflinching character studies. He describes his work as exploring “the depths of the soul through the most fantastic, interesting, and remote stories possible.” Greek myths often serve as inspiration for his writing.
