community spaces

The Garage Campus becomes an open community space for citizens of the city and visitors from near and far. The redesign of the outdoor area will create an attractive site where people enjoy spending time, moving around and lingering. The unsealing of areas, revegetating and planting of the site can contribute to this – as can the opening up of the area (no more fences) and the direct connection to the walkway and cycle path along the Kappelbach. Seating and lounging options, kissing corners, a piazza and other rest areas and hideaways invite visitors to linger. Action areas for art in public space inspire and encourage creativity. In addition, the outdoor area of the Garage Campus offers various open spaces that can be “played” individually by citizens, for example as temporary meeting places for community activities, dialogue formats, presentation locations for pop-up stores, for markets and swap exchanges or events. Through openness and unbureaucratic access, the appropriation areas offer the population the opportunity to help shape their own living environment and make it their own.
