Route network

The Route Network lovingly embraces the history of the site to honor it, play with it, and continue on writing it. The basis for this is, among other things, the moving image animation recently commissioned by CVAG on possible development scenarios for the area. These are characterized by the desire of tram enthusiasts and numerous citizens to significantly extend the narrow-gauge track, which is currently limited to about 100 meters in the outer area and can be used by historic tram waggons.

The value scenario of the Route Network takes up these ideas in order to pursue other possible uses. In addition to museum use, the reconstruction and expansion of the track system over the entire area should enable campus intralogistics of a special kind. In the future, people and materials will move along the rails. Workshops, garages and restaurants will be supplied from the central warehouse and from the central delivery area on Zwickauer Strasse. Comparable to the parts and tool logistics of modern automobile factories (Gläserne Manufaktur Dresden, Cargotram), something is always in motion here. It rattles, rings, whirs and hisses. Self-, solar- or even hydrogen-powered trolley cars, rail bicycles, track horses, moving sofas for a romantic getaway, kinetic objects, moving stages, mobile market and exhibition stands give the Garage Campus the aura of a theme park for railroad enthusiasts and those who still want to become one.

The use scenario allows for ever new and surprising configurations of the space for numerous ideas yet to be developed. Even the workshops could be partially designed as mobile units for even more flexible use in the garages. Thus, the route network becomes an essential component of the garage value creation, not least because it connects the glassy garages with the appropriation space of the campus, making it a true district center.
