The Palace of Things and Data stands for the central warehousing of the Garage Campus. Raw materials and consumables of all kinds as well as rare and special machines are stored here and made available to the glassy garages. Just as some of the buildings on the Garage Campus can be considered “Lost Places” because they have not been used for a long time, in the future it will provide a new home for the “Lost Things” of Chemnitz. Chemnitz citizens will be able to drop off their “junk” (everything that is too good to throw away) and see how it is turned into something new: kinetic works of art from old bicycles, for example, or robots from electronic scrap.

The Palace of Things is intended to be a costume fundus for artistic productions, a storage facility for event technology and equipment, a collection point for curiosities, a fundus for free materials, a winter storage facility for things of the summer, and a garage for the vehicle fleet of the Garage Campus. In addition to material things, the Palace will also collect open data (“Open Data”) of the city, the region and beyond that can be used for artistic, entrepreneurial and scientific purposes.
